NANOSAFE2 project No. : NMP2-CT-2005-515843

access: public
  • Project acronym : NANOSAFE2
  • Project full title : Safe production and use of nanomaterials
  • Instrument : Integrated Project
  • Thematic Priority : NMP (priority 3 - Nanotechnologies and nano-sciences, knowledge-based multifunctional materials and new production processes and devices)
  • Operative commencement date of contract : 1 APRIL , 2005
  • Duration : 48 months

NANOSAFE2 project objectives

access: public

The overall aim of NANOSAFE2 is to develop risk assessment and management for secure industrial production of nanoparticles. As the world of nanoparticles is already very wide today, only a finite number of reference cases of nanoparticles will be treated. These cases will be representative of main particle characteristics, main production processes and related risks.

NANOSAFE2 project summary

access: public

The rapidly developing field of nanotechnologies presents many opportunities and benefits for new materials with significantly improved properties as well as revolutionary applications in the fields of energy, environment, medicine, etc. The industrial production and use of nanoparticles will be the driving force for the emerging new materials industry of the 21st century. In terms of economics, analysts have estimated that the worldwide market for nanomaterials will be 700-1000 billion Euro in 2011. However, the potential impact of these new materials on human health and the environment is viewed with apprehension. This is the purpose of the NANOSAFE2 integrated project which into four subprojects, where different groups work on selected subjects.
